Florian Wirtz missed training earlier this week because he was feeling unwell, while Ibrahima Konate was absent due to a personal matter, Arne Slot has confirmed.

Both players are expected to be available as the Reds host Chelsea on Saturday. In addition, Alexander Isak has returned to training after a minor injury and Giorgi Mamardashvili is expected to take part in the session that takes place later today.

Mohamed Salah and Alisson Becker are not far away from making a comeback, but the recovery of Isak and Mamardashvili is a huge double boost for Liverpool ahead of a fixture that could see a Champions League place secured.

"Alex trained with us again yesterday for the first time," Slot outlined in his pre-match press conference in Kirkby.

"All good. He did parts of it and hopefully he can do parts or everything today. We see how much we are going to use him.

"Alisson not yet; Giorgi Mamardashvili today for the first time. Mo is very, very close, like Ali.

"Ibou had a personal reason for not training on Wednesday but was yesterday and today and Florian was a bit unwell but trained yesterday as well."

A win for Liverpool against Chelsea could be enough to secure a Champions League spot with two games remaining, depending on results that happen later in the weekend.

Even if it doesn't happen this week, Liverpool will end up in the top four or five places, which will come as a relief after a tough few months for Slot's side.

"The first and main aim is to qualify for the Champions League," he said.

"We've shown this season that we need a good performance to get good results. We have not had many good results when we've not played well. We need to play well to win a game of football."

On facing Chelsea, Slot added: "A few of their players are coming back so it will probably be a stronger team than last week.

"If you miss your best players, that's never helpful. It's always a difficult game for both teams because there's so much quality at both ends."
