Kostas Tsimikas sees his loan at AS Roma come to an end at the end of the season, and there have been some questions around whether the Greek international will return with having one more year left on his deal at Anfield.
Tsimikas’ potential return comes after a mixed season on loan at Roma under Gian Piero Gasperini.
The Greek left‑back has made just 18 Serie A appearances and has often found himself behind other options, with the Roma boss at times preferring to shuffle his back line rather than fully trust Tsimikas in the starting XI.
That lack of consistent minutes even prompted Liverpool to explore bringing him back in January, as uncertainty grew around Andy Robertson’s future, but talks ultimately ended with Roma opting to keep him for the rest of the campaign.
But it seems Tsimikas will be allowed another chance in the Dutchman’s squad for next season.
Speaking in his pre-Chelsea press conference, Arne Slot was asked about whether he is looking forward to the challenge of another transition, to which he then revealed that the 29-year-old will be coming back from his loan:
“I’m only looking forward to it so I’m not worried at all. As I looked forward to working with these players two years ago and one year ago.”
“As a manager you’re never worried, you’re just looking forward to working with players. There will probably be another little transition but not as drastic as last year. One player probably replaced by Kostas Tsimikas who is coming back off loan.”
Given Liverpool’s priorities this summer, it makes sense to bring Tsimikas back into the fold rather than spend limited funds on a back‑up left‑back. With bigger holes to plug elsewhere in the squad, using an experienced, already‑settled option as Kerkez’s deputy is a logical, low‑risk solution for 2026/27.
