"I'm sure..." - Liverpool backed to be front and centre for potential stunning summer signing

Liverpool could be among the clubs in the mix to complete the stunning signing of Kylian Mbappe this summer, should he move to the Premier League.

Real Madrid are a club in crisis currently, with Aurelien Tchouameni and Federico Valverde having a physical altercation, and a petition among supporters signed to see Mbappe sold at the end of the season.

The Frenchman is arguably the best player of his generation, so if he does leave the Santiago Bernabeu in the summer, there will be an almighty clamour for his signature.

Speaking to Football Insider, journalist Pete O’Rourke said the Premier League “big guns” will be monitoring Mbappe’s situation closely, with Liverpool certainly falling into that category:

“I’m sure they would love the chance to try and Kylian Mbappe, undoubtedly one of the world’s best players. Obviously, there’s been a bit of furore around Mbappe because he’s had a bit of an up and down season and there’s a lot going on at Real Madrid right now.

“He would be a dream signing for the Premier League because he’s still the biggest star probably in football right now. It would be great to see him in the Premier League. It would be a huge financial outlay as well for any club if they were looking to sign Mbappe. Transfer fee, wages all included, there’s only a certain few clubs who could afford that.

“If the door does open for Mbappe, you would expect all the Premier League big-guns to try and lure him away because that opportunity to sign a player like Mbappe doesn’t come around too often.”

Could Liverpool feasibly sign Kylian Mbappe this summer?

Mbappe is an incredible footballer – one who has won the World Cup with France and scored a combined 341 goals for Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid – so the idea of Liverpool signing him is the stuff of dreams.

That said, the Reds could simply be unable to match other clubs, namely Manchester City, in terms of being able to afford a vast price tag and huge wages.

For that reason, it is hard to see Liverpool snapping up Mbappe in one of the most remarkable transfers in their history, even though they would no doubt love him.

There is still every chance that he stays at Madrid, with the current issue blowing over, but if he does move on, City feel like the most likely Premier League option.
