‘Especially not at €40m’ – Liverpool interest laughed off, contract doesn’t have clause

**Liverpool will need more than €40m if they wish to sign Assan Ouédraogo from RB Leipzig this summer.**

[BILD laugh off the potential interest in the Leipzig](https://www.bild.de/sport/fussball/rb-leipzig-fuer-40-mio-euro-liverpool-heiss-auf-dfb-juwel-ouedraogo-69fc9fe8122b28e67b1df20a) midfielder today following reports that Liverpool may be interested in the 19-year-old.

**€40m not enough**

-------------------

The newspaper explains that Leipzig are aiming to seal their qualification for the Champions League this weekend with a win over St. Pauli.

This is a crucial piece of the puzzle for the German club, particularly when it comes to retaining coveted talents within the squad. Assan Ouédraogo is one of those talents.

Despite suffering two knee injuries, he has enjoyed a strong campaign, repeatedly offering glimpses of his ‘immense potential. That’s been the case with Leipzig and the German national team.

Europe’s top clubs have taken notice. Bayern Munich have already been linked with a move. Now reports outside Germany are stating Liverpool have him on their list. They are, reportedly, prepared to make a bid in the region of €40m.

The Reds first pursued Assan Ouédraogo three years ago when Jurgen Klopp was in charge. Now they’d have to convince him to sell. [They also watched him last year.](https://sportwitness.co.uk/arsenal-and-liverpool-recently-watched-player-live-e100m-transfer-fee-already-planned/)

**Liverpool and Leipzig negotiations**

--------------------------------------

But BILD explain that there is ‘absolutely no interest’ in letting Assan Ouédraogo go. And ‘certainly not for €40m.’

RB Leipzig intend for their ‘prize gem’ to take the next steps in his development with them next season. Ideally that will also happen in the Champions League. His contract, which runs until 2029, does not contain a release clause.

Thus, it would take negotiations between Liverpool and Leipzig. They have a good working relationship. Naby Keïta, Ibrahima Konaté and Dominik Szoboszlai have all swapped Leipzig for Anfield since 2018.

The chances of Ouédraogo following that path are currently slim. Leipzig have no intention of selling and certainly not for the €40m that Liverpool are reportedly willing to spend this summer. It seems it would take significantly more than that figure to tempt them to change their minds.
