Liverpool are one of three Premier League clubs who are keeping close tabs on Porto midfielder Victor Froholdt, according to reports in the Danish media.

Bold claim that the Reds, Newcastle and Arsenal have begun to show “great interest” in the 20-year-old who has had an impressive season in Liga Portugal.

Froholdt only moved to Porto from FC Copenhagen for €20m in July, and he has been a key part of the team that has won the league title.

Head coach Francesco Farioli has handed the Denmark international 49 appearances in total (including 41 starts), with the player scoring 8 times and providing 6 assists.

Liverpool may need to replace Jones

It looks like the Reds could well part ways with Curtis Jones at the end of the season. The 25-year-old is closing in on the final twelve months of his contract, and there is no indication that an extension is close to being signed.

Newly-crowned Serie A champions Inter Milan tried to snap up the midfielder back in January, and they could make another attempt in the summer. The likes of Aston Villa and Tottenham are other potential suitors.

In that context, you can see why a player like Froholdt has come onto the radar, with the Merseysiders potentially needing a replacement for Jones.

Froholdt has a release clause

Bold report that Porto inserted a buyout fee worth 635 Danish Krone into the player’s contract when he arrived from Copenhagen last year. On the current exchange rate, that works out at just over £73m.

It is unlikely that the Portuguese title winners would hold out for that much, but they will still want considerably more than what they paid for Froholdt.
