A pivotal summer lies ahead for Arne Slot and Liverpool following an underwhelming title defence. Andy Robertson and Mohamed Salah are set to leave at the end of the season, while further high-profile departures could also follow.

In terms of potential arrivals, Yan Diomande, Bradley Barcola, Adam Wharton, Marcos Senesi and Victor Froholdt have all been linked with moves to Anfield.

Jooo Gomes has also emerged as a target, with the midfielder widely expected to leave Wolverhampton Wanderersfollowing the club’s relegation to the Championship.

Liverpool have previously been linked with Gomes, who is believed to be open to a switch to Anfield. The Brazil international is also attracting interest from Crystal Palace, while Atletico Madrid are strongly interested and have opened talks with Wolvesover a potential deal as they look to strengthen their midfield.

According to talkSPORT, Atletico Madrid are close to agreeing a deal for Wolves midfielder Joao Gomes. The two parties are nearing a verbal agreement worth around €45million (£38.9million).

Atleti also still have verbal terms in place with Ederson, although no agreement has yet been reached with Serie A side Atalanta.Manchester United are also understood to have presented terms to the midfielder.

Gomes joined Wolvesfrom Clube de Regatas do Flamengo in 2023. The 25-year-old has since made nearly 130 appearances across all competitions for Wolves, with 114 of those coming in the Premier League.

However, the 2025/26 campaign has been a difficult one for the midfielder, with Wolves already relegated from the top flight.

Rob Edwards’ side were officially relegated to the Championship on April 20 following West Ham United’s goalless draw against Crystal Palace.Relegation had appeared inevitable for Wolves, who spent the entire season in the bottom three.

With the club preparing for life back in the Championship, several summer departures are expected as Edwards assesses which players remain committed to the project.

Gomes enjoyed early success in Brazil, winning the Brazilian league title and the Campeonato Carioca before adding the Copa Libertadores in 2021 following victory over Club Athletico Paranaense.
