Former Husker switching sides of the ball in NFL

A former Husker in the NFL is switching sides of the ball this spring, according to multiple reports.

Former Nebraska defensive tackle **[Nash Hutmacher](https://247sports.com/Player/Nash-Hutmacher-46056120)**, who spent last season on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers practice squad as a defensive tackle, is moving to offensive guard.

Hutmacher didn't appear in a game for the Buccaneers as a rookie last season, spending the year on the team's practice squad. He signed a futures contract in January and this week it was reported that he is trying his hand at offensive guard — a position he hasn't played since high school.

"Here's a cool wrinkle: Bucs' Nash Hutmacher is moving from defensive tackle to offensive guard," veteran Tampa reporter Greg Auman wrote on X. "Nebraska grad is 6-4, 310, spent rookie year on Tampa Bay's practice squad. Last played OL in HS. "The Polar Bear" was also a wrestler at Nebraska. Fun story to watch in training camp."

Making that kind of move once already in the pro ranks is a difficult one, but Hutmacher's wrestling background and familiarity with playing the position in high school could help. It also likely buys more time for Hutmacher with the team if he can show progress at the position.

Tampa Bay is holding its rookie minicamps this week and Hutmacher is taking part, along with former Husker guard Henry Lutovsky, who signed with the club as an undrafted free agent.

Hutmacher battled injuries in his final season at Nebraska, but started all 13 games and recorded 24 tackles, 4.0 tackles for loss, 2.0 sacks and one forced fumble. He earned honorable-mention All-Big Ten accolades for the second straight season.

During his time in Lincoln, Hutmacher appeared in 49 career games with 27 starts. During his time at Nebraska, Hutmacher also wrestled for the Huskers.
