As New York Jets head coach Aaron Glenn looks to improve after a forgettable first season with the team, the franchise does have holes that still need to be addressed. With the Jets coming off the 2026 NFL Draft, this team beat reporter has a take when it comes to the thought of New York potentially going after Odell Beckham Jr. as a veteran wide receiver to come in.
Cimini would speak on the “Jets Collective” show, where he would talk about the team needing a veteran wide receiver in a unit full of young pass-catchers. When one of the hosts mentioned Beckham's name, there was major hesitation on the 33-year-old, who recently worked out with the New York Giants.
“Yeah, I don't know if that would be the…What's he got left? If the Giants thought he was that great, they would have signed him right away,” Cimini said.

Rich Cimini on the type of veteran receiver the Jets need

While Beckham still looks for a team, the Jets do need a veteran pass-catcher as the room consists of Garrett Wilson, Omar Coper Jr., Kenyon Sadiq, and others. Cimini would make this point of needing a “stopgap” player.
“Yeah, there's going to be a lot of development that goes on. You know, Cooper, Sadiq, these are young, young players, you know, 21 years old, 22 years old. So they're going to need a little bit of development time. That's why I thought, and I still think, they should go out and get a veteran receiver. Look, there's not a lot of great choices out there. Now, there's some big names, but they're a little long in the tooth. I'd like to see him go get a veteran receiver,” Cimini said on Friday.
“Just as a stopgap guy, because who's your four? Isaiah Williams is probably your four,” Cimini continued. “Is Arian Smith, your five? I mean, Arian Smith made no impact at wide receiver last year. He's a special teams guy.”
At any rate, it remains to be seen who New York obtains as a veteran presence after the team had a 3-14 record.
