Seahawks writer reveals Cooper Kupp reality Rams fans saw coming

It was a painful moment for the Los Angeles Rams when wide receiver Cooper Kupp left the team and ended up with division rival Seattle. While it stung watching the Seahawks win the Super Bowl (especially with how close the Rams came to being in the big game themselves), Kupp winning another ring was at least something fans could smile about.

That said, Kupp likely won't be in Seattle for too much longer. Kupp initially signed a three-year deal, but, according to Aaron Zacharias of 12th Man Rising, the writing is already on the wall for the former Rams wideout. Zacharias mentioned how the Seahawks drafted another wide receiver in the form of Emmanuel Henderson Jr. and how they re-signed Rashid Shaheed, complicating things for Kupp.

"The writing on the wall was already bearing sensible words for Kupp: his future in Seattle is not long, even though he will remain with the team for at least the 2026 season. It's Henderson's addition that could make things even bleaker for Kupp, should the rookie develop and excel quickly throughout his rookie season.

The Seahawks will keep Kupp for the next season, but it's next offseason where things may take a turn, as Kupp will count $18 million against the cap, and the Seahawks will save $14 million if they move him. Money aside, though, it's really Henderson who could make the Seahawks' future decision-making on Kupp easier, even if it's harder, given who Kupp is and what he means to the team."

Such is life in the NFL.

Former Rams WR Cooper Kupp might not be long for Seattle

Kupp was originally a third-round pick by the Rams in 2017 and became one of the best weapons on the team right away. He was a huge part of the offense that helped win the Rams a Super Bowl in the 2021 season and was rewarded for his efforts in that game with the Super Bowl MVP honors.

Unfortunately, Kupp struggled to stay healthy during his career, and that, paired with his age, made him a cap casualty last offseason. He signed with the Seahawks not long after and, as we know, went on to win a Super Bowl with them.

Kupp was never going to be the star of the Seahawks offense; that title belongs to Jaxon Smith-Njigba, but he still had a respectable year with them in 2025. Kupp finished with nearly 600 yards receiving and two touchdowns in 16 regular-season games. That being said, the Seahawks have to continue building for the future, and Kupp won't be a part of their long-term future. That makes what Zacharias wrote seem perfectly logical.

Don't be surprised when Kupp's time in Seattle is ultimately cut short.
