Liverpoolare in the midst of a rebuild as Arne Slot prepares to part ways with several long-serving players this summer. With just three Premier League games remaining, the Reds are still battling for Champions League qualification in a bid to finish the season strongly.
Arne Slot’s side recently suffered a 3-2 defeat to Manchester United, damaging their hopes of securing a top-four finish. However, fixtures against Chelsea, Aston Villa and Brentford still offer the Reds an opportunity to end the campaign on a positive note.
Slot will also have one eye on the summer transfer window as he looks to reshape his squad. Despite spending £446million last year, Liverpool have struggled to justify that outlay, with injuries and difficult European fixtures exposing weaknesses in key areas of the team.
Some departures have already been confirmed, with Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson both set to leave Anfield this summer. There could yet be more exits, with uncertainty continuing to surround the futures of Curtis Jones and Alexis Mac Allister.
Liverpool’s search for a new midfielder has reportedly led them back to Assan Ouedraogo. The RB Leipzig teenager was previously on Liverpool’s radar during Jurgen Klopp’s time at Anfield, with reports in 2023 claiming the club had spoken with his representatives while he was still at Schalke 04.
The 19-year-old midfielder has since moved to Leipzig and developed into one of Germany’s most promising young midfielders. Bayern Munich have previously been linked with him in the past.
According to BILD, RB Leipzig have no intention of allowing Assan Ouedraogo to leave this summer, certainly not for a fee in the region of €40million.
The Bundesliga side see the midfielder as a key part of their long-term project, with expectations that he will take the next step in his development at the club next season, ideally in the Champions League. Ouedraogo’s contract runs until 2029 and does not include a release clause.
RB Leipzig and Liverpool have maintained a strong relationship in recent years, with several notable transfers between the two sides. Naby Keita moved from Leipzig to the Premier League in 2018, followed by Ibrahima Konate in 2021, and then Dominik Szoboszlai in 2023.
Despite suffering two knee injuries, Assan Ouedraogo has enjoyed a strong season, consistently underlining his potential for both club and country. He has racked up 18 appearances for Leipzig this season, scored three goals and provided four assists in all competitions.
He made a smooth transition into the national setup after his first call-up in November, even scoring as a substitute in a 6-0 win over Slovakia.Liverpoolhave meanwhile been linked with a summer move for his teammate Yan Diomande.
