The Miami Dolphins made a ton of roster moves leading up to the 2026 NFL Draft, with the majority focusing on cutting ties with veterans.
But, for the most part, the Dolphins have been able to fill their roster with talent to replace a lot of those departing veterans.
However, as ESPN's Aaron Schatz noted, the Dolphins still haven't resolved their Minkah Fitzpatrick problem after trading him to the New York Jets.
"The Dolphins have plenty of positions where there isn't really a hole, per se, just a collection of uninspiring veterans and middle-round picks," Schatz writes. "The one that stands out the most is safety."
Miami's safety room leaves a lot to be desired, and since the departure of Fitzpatrick, Jon-Eric Sullivan and Jeff Hafley haven't addressed the position well enough. This is still a problem, and one that needs to be resolved this offseason.
Dolphins still have to resolve safety issue after Minkah Fitzpatrick trade
Currently slotted into the safety room for Miami this upcoming season are Lonnie Johnson Jr., Dante Trader Jr., Jordan Colbert, Zayne Anderson, Michael Taaffe, Louis Moore, and hybrid linebacker/safety rookie Kyle Louis in the fold.
Even though 2026 won't be a good season for the Dolphins, as they're in the middle of a serious rebuild, they could still use another starting-caliber safety to at least be somewhat competitive.

While Miami shouldn't trade for a player, it could look to the free agent market. J'Jarius Sneed, Jimmie Ward, Donovan Wilson, Taylor Rapp, and Xavier Woods are a few names the Dolphins could pursue in free agency.
Following the 2026 NFL Draft, the Dolphins still have a spot on their roster to fill with the departure of Fitzpatrick to a division rival in a trade.
The only question for Miami is whether they commit to this lesser group or if they go out and add another safety to create even a slightly better environment for the defense.
