The New York Jets placed a non-exclusive franchise tag on Breece Hall in March worth $14.293 million. Hall is coming off a strong fourth season, rushing for a career-high 1,065 yards with four touchdowns, along with 350 receiving yards and one touchdown over 16 games. The Jets and Hall had until July 15 to reach a long-term deal before being locked into the one-year tender.
The team was not expected to trade the elite offensive weapon because they did not add a running back in free agency or select one in the 2026 NFL Draft. Braelon Allen, Isaiah Davis, and Kene Nwangwu are the other backs under contract, along with undrafted free agents Chip Trayanum and Sam Scott. Allen, who missed the final 13 games of 2025 with an MCL sprain, and Davis, who played the second-most snaps at the position, will compete for the number two role.

According to Ian Rapoport, the Jets have agreed to a lucrative multi-year contract extension with Breece Hall, making him the third-highest-paid running back in the NFL. The deal is for three years and is worth $45.75 million ($15.25 million annually). Ultimately, both sides reached an agreement two months before the deadline.
