Mr Lucci, who has owned the restaurant for more than 20 years, said: "[Donnarumma] was lovely, very friendly, open with all the staff, willing to take photos.

"He loved the food - he's coming back again next week."

Mr Lucci said himself and Donnarumma are both from the Naples area and that they even shared some friends in common.

Sul Lago is no stranger to having Man City stars on its premises, with the entire team and manager Pep Guardiola dining at the restaurant to bid farewell to former midfielder Fernandinho before his departure back in 2022.

More than 90 people from players, kitmen, and coaching staff attended the 15-course meal, with Mr Lucci saying at the time that Guardiola "knows his wine and food".

Along with Man City stars, Mr Lucci said the restaurant has also hosted former Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo through its doors.

When asked why footballers loved Sul Lago so much, Mr Lucci said: "They come quite often - they really like the food.

"Some people know about our hidden menu. We do regional dishes which aren't on the main menu, so some of the players really like that."
