The ongoing drama between Aaron Rodgers and the Pittsburgh Steelers has continued into the month of May. Nobody knows when exactly Rodgers will sign, but the latest update proves the organization isn’t what it used to be.
Latest Aaron Rodgers Update Reiterates Ugly Truth About Steelers
What Everyone Knows to Date:
The Steelers continue to entertain the idea of Rodgers coming back, and it appears as if he is their top choice. Ian Rapoport reported on Thursday that Rodgers is visiting with the Steelers over the weekend and “likely” to play for them in 2026.
This news comes despite drafting Drew Allar at No. 76 overall in the 2026 NFL Draft and drafting Will Howard last year. Currently, the organization has two quarterbacks 24 years old or younger on its roster with zero public plans for them. This is not an endorsement for either former Big 10 quarterback, but rather a reiteration that this isn’t your grandparents’ Steelers anymore… or your parents’ Steelers for that matter.
When Will Rodgers Sign?
The short answer to this question is nobody knows when exactly it will happen. While it could happen over the weekend, the odds do not seem to be high given the lack of public information coming from either side. On Friday, general manager Omar Khan spoke to Chris Mack on the “You Better You Bet” podcast and publicly refuted Rapoport’s claim from Thursday.
“Yeah, you know, I don’t know where specifically Aaron is,” Khan told Mack on Friday. “You know, I can tell you that Aaron and I, and Coach (Mike McCarthy) and Aaron and Aaron’s representatives, we’ve had some good conversations since the season ended and since Mike got hired, and it’s been positive. But, yeah, I don’t know where he is at this moment. We continue to have conversations, and they’re positive and, you know, we had a good experience with him last year, and, you know, I think he would probably echo the same thing and, you know, conversations continue.”

Fans don’t expect Khan to reveal every little detail about when Rodgers will explicitly return and how long he will stay in the Steel City, but it’s very concerning that the general manager appears to have no idea where Rodgers is at right now. However, this latest interaction reveals once again that the Steelers are bending over backwards for a 42-year-old quarterback.
Aaron Rodgers Has Organization Right Where He Wants Them
Rodgers isn’t in any rush to sign with the Steelers, and frankly, who can blame him? It’s clear that he is the one who is leading any discussion on returning to the organization. McCarthy, being the head coach, only gives him more fuel to continue his antics. Under previous Rooneys, the organization would have given Rodgers the ultimatum to return by the draft or be gone for good. With Art Rooney II at the helm, the reputation of the Steelers has quickly diminished.
Of course, this whole saga will likely end the way the Steelers want it to end, with Rodgers agreeing to a one-year deal. When it happens or how quickly his deal comes together remains to be seen. As far as Rodgers is concerned, this could drag on all the way until the start of training camp. He believes he will get what he wants one way or another.
The longer this dilemma goes on, the worse the Steelers’ front office and organization look as a collective. Letting any player dictate negotiations, much less one who will only be around for another year, is only going to keep the Steelers stuck in mediocrity, where playoff wins are now a premium after being an expectation for years.
