Mike Vrabel faces the most uncertain stretch of his coaching career. His 116-68coaching record covers seven years as an NFL head coach. A fellow coach who survived a scandal insists Vrabel has just one option left.
That coach is Jason Brown, known from Netflix’s Last Chance U. Brown faced relentless media scrutiny during his junior college coaching days. That experience still shapes his view on what Vrabel must do next.
Photos firstsurfaced from a luxury resort in Sedona, Arizona in March 2026. Then came footage from a 2021 private boat rental in Tennessee. Dianna Russini appeared visibly pregnant in that footage from a Tennessee boat rental.

More clips followed from a casino and a bar. Each new leak has raised the pressure on the Patriots coach. Russini resigned from The Athletic shortly after the initial photos went public.
Vrabel acknowledged the situation publicly and took time for counseling. He called it a distraction but has not resigned or been fired. Robert Kraft has publicly supported his head coach so far.
The 2021 boat footagedrew the sharpest reaction from Brown. “If that’s not your baby… That’s the walk of a Baby Daddy,” Brown said. He questioned whether that image fits a Patriots head coach.
Brown sees a clear difference between Vrabel and owner Robert Kraft. “Vrabel is the head coach who has to take all bullets every day,” Brown said. Robert Kraft never has to stand at that podium every single week.
Brown speaks from his own direct experience with a public scandal. “It was the worst time ever… TMZ at the door,” Brown said. That painful memory drives his blunt and direct warning to Vrabel.
Coach JB delivers a powerful message to Mike Vrabel
Brown offered a direct path forward for the embattled Patriots coach. “Resign now, walk away. A year or two years go by, who cares, get back into coaching,” Brown said.
Brown warns that staying guarantees more leaks and more serious damage. “You stay coaching and you end up having to resign during the season or get fired,” Brown said.
Brown calls this an era of vulture media where digging in leads to forced exits. Pressurebuilds steadily with each new clip that surfaces online. In Brown’s view, the entire decision comes down to one question of timing.
The alleged affair also raises serious questions about journalistic ethics and access. Russini covered Vrabel’s teams for years at ESPN and The Athletic. The NFL said it is not reviewing Vrabel’s conduct under the personal conduct policy.
No laws were broken, but the constant drip of new footage makes focus impossible. Brown lived that exact reality during his own coaching tenure.
His message to Mike Vrabel remains clear and completely unchanged from day one. Walk away on his own terms before someone else makes that choice.
