The [Chicago Bears](https://www.sportingnews.com/us/nfl/chicago-bears) officially unveiled jersey numbers for their 2026 rookie class, with one announcement immediately capturing the attention of fans across Chicago. Second-round offensive lineman Logan Jones will wear No. 54 — the legendary number once made famous by Hall of Fame linebacker Brian Urlacher.

For [Bears](https://www.sportingnews.com/us/nfl/chicago-bears) fans, No. 54 carries enormous historical significance. Urlacher wore the number throughout his storied career from 2000 to 2012, becoming one of the most recognizable defensive players in franchise history. During his time in Chicago, Urlacher earned eight Pro Bowl selections, won the NFL Defensive Player of the Year award in 2005, and helped lead the Bears to Super Bowl XLI before eventually earning induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Although Jones plays center rather than linebacker, his assignment to No. 54 has already sparked conversation because of the number’s connection to one of the franchise’s greatest players. The Bears have never officially retired the jersey, allowing it to return to circulation for future generations.

The 6-foot-3, 299-pound lineman started 51 games during his collegiate career and earned unanimous All-American honors in 2025. He also won the prestigious Rimington Trophy, awarded annually to college football’s top center.

Last season, Jones helped anchor an Iowa offensive line that won the Joe Moore Award, given to the nation’s top offensive line unit. The Hawkeyes rushed for more than 200 yards in eight games during the 2025 season, showcasing Jones’ toughness and leadership in the middle of the line.

The Bears selected Jones with the 57th overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, believing he can become a foundational piece of Chicago’s offensive line for years to come.
