A win over Chelsea on Saturday could be enough to guarantee Liverpool's place in next season's Champions League. While this has been a campaign to forget for the Reds, there remains the prospect of a positive conclusion despite the lack of silverware.

Securing a spot in European football's most prestigious competition will also substantially strengthen the club's spending power this summer, with Arne Slot anticipated to remain at the helm for another costly recruitment drive.

Among the Dutchman's priorities is finding replacements for Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson, who will depart the club after nine years of service. Slot may also need to address Alexis Mac Allister's contractual circumstances, while the Reds manager has been urged to complete a "dream" acquisition for the club.

We examine the key stories emerging from Anfield...

Alexis Mac Allister has just two years remaining on his Liverpool deal but is not currently involved in discussions over fresh terms, according to his father Carlos. The former Boca Juniors playmaker also confirmed his son is not holding talks regarding a possible departure from Anfield either.

The 27-year-old's midfield partners, Ryan Gravenberch and Dominik Szoboszlai, have been given priority for new contracts this season as recent speculation has surfaced suggesting Mac Allister could be on his way out.

Discussing his son's future, Carlos told WinWin: "Alexis has a valid contract until June 2028 and so far we are not speaking publicly with any other club. We believe that the club's fans deserve this level of respect from the player, and so far the club has not negotiated with us to renew the contract."

The World Cup winner is amongst several players this campaign who have failed to reach the standards they previously set, with the Reds poised to conclude the season empty-handed.

Slot urged to pursue dream target

Liverpool's attacking options will require substantial investment this summer. With Mohamed Salah departing, Hugo Ekitike potentially sidelined until 2027 and Federico Chiesa's situation unclear, Slot will need to recruit attacking talent.

Among the various names being touted with a switch to Merseyside, former Reds player Bolo Zenden believes Paris Saint-Germain winger Desire Doue would constitute a "dream" acquisition for the Premier League champions.

While discussing the France international's outstanding ability, Zenden acknowledged that luring him away from the Champions League holders might prove challenging. He said: "A player I like a lot and would be my dream signing for Liverpool is Desire Doue.

"Having said that, I think it would be really hard to persuade him to leave PSG. Doue is doing really, really well for his age and has a certain profile that would obviously fit Liverpool. But, as I said, he's at a great club, and they're winning most of the trophies that they can.

"For him to leave Paris, it will be a difficult one, but he's definitely a player that I like to watch. He's one of the players that plays on that wing and week in, week out shows his qualities. It would be a dream signing."
