Assan Ouedraogo Reacts To“Crazy”Claim That Liverpool Want To Sign Him For£35M

RB Leipzig attacking midfielder Assan Ouedraogo has shot down rumours linking him with a transfer to Liverpool.

There have been reports suggesting that the Reds are lining up a €40m (£35m) bid for the 20-year-old, and when he was jokingly asked by Bild whether he had already packed his suitcases ahead of a move to Merseyside, Ouedraogo replied:

“No! I think such rumours happen again and again; that’s the way it is in football. This goes in with one ear and out the other.”

“Otherwise, you’ll go crazy if you believe everything that’s written about you. I’m here in Leipzig now, and I’m not really interested in everything else.”

Ouedraogo has been plagued by injuries

The Bundesliga side snapped up the German international from Schalke for €10m in the summer of 2024. However, hamstring and knee problems have limited him to just 23 appearances over the last two seasons.

Even so, Bild claim that it would take more than €40m to prise him away from Leipzig. There is no release clause in his contract, and they are keen on keeping the player. Despite his injuries, they clearly believe he has a very promising future ahead of him.

Liverpool could be in the market for a new midfielder

While Ouedraogo may not be making the switch to Anfield this summer, sporting director Richard Hughes will be seeking to reinforce the midfield.

There are doubts over the long-term future of Curtis Jones. The 25-year-old is closing on the final year of his contract, and there is no indication that he will sign an extension.

In addition to Jones, Alexis Mac Allister could also be on the move if a buyer can be found for the Argentinian international, following a very poor campaign.
