Kansas City Chiefs star Patrick Mahomes’ wife, Brittany, has announced that she has been diagnosed with a troubling wrist issue that she had ignored for a year.

The Chiefs quarterback and his wife, who have been together since their youth, share three children: Sterling, 5, Bronze, 3, and Golden Raye, 1. Brittany revealed that ongoing wrist pain, which worsened after a workout earlier in the week, finally pushed her to address the longstanding issue.

She later disclosed that she was diagnosed with De Quervain’s tenosynovitis, often referred to as “Mother’s Wrist,” a condition linked to repetitive lifting motions and hormonal shifts. The revelation comes as Mahomes steps up his recovery from an ACL injury to make Week 1 of the 2026 NFL season.

“To find out I have this... been battling it for probably around a year now, thinking it will just get better,” Brittany, 30, said on social media. “Well, it never did and started to get pretty bad... so now.”

Brittany will also have to wear a wrist brace while she recovers. “I get to wear this cool thing,” she added. Her husband is also on a strong road to recovery. His devastating ACL injury coincided with the Chiefs being knocked out of playoff contention last year.

Concerns were raised over whether Mahomes would make it back in time for Week 1 as the Chiefs look to reclaim the NFL mountain. Signs suggest he could make their first game.

“I think all sides are pointing to a very, very good recovery with Patrick Mahomes right now,” James Palmer of Bleacher Report said. “He is ahead of schedule in a lot of people's minds.

“I know it's a long recovery, so you don't want to, like, gauge that because it goes and, you know, ebbs and flows. But this is all pointing towards him playing in Week 1.

“I think it really is, from everybody I've talked to. It's not going to be rushed. There's still a lot of time between now and then, but that's where things see right now.”

Bleacher’s suggestion was backed up by the Chiefs’ GM, who confirmed that Mahomes is ahead of schedule. “I will say this, I think it wouldn’t surprise you guys, the way it’s been really inspiring to just see, in my mind, I’ve been there before with Pat [Mahomes], he had that dislocated knee [in 2019] and worked his tail off, and came back in three weeks. I knew this bump in the road wouldn’t slow him down at all," general manager Brett Veach said.

“But, I mean, this guy has been in the building. Especially for a player who has accomplished everything, can do anything he wants, he can hire his own trainers, he can be wherever he wants.

“He’s in our building every single day. And even when he goes away for a few days, say to Dallas for a weekend with his family, he takes one of our trainers with him.

“So, needless to say, he’s way ahead of schedule. I think the biggest challenge we’re going to have is protecting him against himself, because I’m sure when we get to St. Joseph, Missouri, for training camp, he’s going to want to be full go.

“But we’re going to have to hold him back a little. And, again, I don’t want to put a timetable on it. But I think you guys know the kind of person and competitor Pat is, and I would just say, we’re in a really good place right now.”
