CLEVELAND, OHIO (TheOBR.com) - Good morning, Cleveland Browns fans!
The other day, I got this weird email from the NFL, two of them, actually, heralding the 2026 NFL schedule release with the usual NFL pomposity and grandeur. Only the NFL could turn the release of their upcoming year's schedule of games into a multi-media event complete with live TV productions, massive graphics, and, I'm assuming, cheerleaders. I'm assuming, because I haven't watched the NFL official production for years, preferring our usual schedule release show instead. Plus, schedule leaks are pretty common, and usually, the Browns' schedule is largely known before the official announcement anyway.
I received messages from the NFL about the schedule release, and I reviewed the entire document, including the NFL.com pieces linked from it, to determine when the announcement was actually going to be made. Nothing was listed. Here was this fancy schedule announcement with all the trimmings, talking about how thrilling it would be, but there was NO mention of when the hell it was going to be.
I was a bit perplexed.
Then, yesterday, in a separate announcement, the NFL confirmed May 14th as the official date. All this because the league had been struggling to get the schedule together at this late time, but it sounds like they finally got it figured out, probably by calculating out some way to make the Browns' schedule as difficult and travel-intensive as possible. All powerful forces work against the Browns, I'm convinced, because I don't want to admit that the dysfunction over the years may have come from inside the house. Anyway, I was sort of relieved to know that even the powerful, rich NFL can struggle with what appears to be a really complicated math problem. Five more days, folks. Start clearing your Thursday evening.
With that mystery solved, I could turn my attention to the various bits of news coming out of the rookie mini-camp. Even though they weren't there, the real contenders for the quarterback job, Shedeur, at least, managed to make some headlines by dismissing criticism and acting above it via an Instagram post. I don't follow Instagram, so, fortunately, one of those Twitter content reposters found it and made a big deal out of it. I don't consider it much of a story, but at some point, publicly talking about criticism and how it's not important to you starts looking like the opposite. So, there's that.

From the actual camp itself, rookie quarterback Taylen Green stood out as being incredibly physically gifted, with the ball jumping out of his hand and sometimes going to where it was supposed to go. All of this looked damn impressive when it worked, per Pete Smith's mini-camp notes in Rumor Central. Green will get a huge amount of attention as they run around in shirts and shorts because of his physical gifts and the fact that he's a quarterback, but before you get too fired up about his potential, a trip to visit his college stats indicates a lot of turnovers. Being intrigued, but not excited, is how I'm trying to handle the situation.
Also, in totally expected news, Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah has been placed on the Reserve/PUP list and will miss the entire 2026 season - his second straight year lost to a neck injury. There were few hopes that JOK would play this year, and the notion that his career is over isn't remote. The financial implications are significant, too, as the Browns will have to navigate his insurance situation and its cap impact.
In happier news, the rookie minicamp officially kicked off with a splash. Spencer Fano and seven fellow draft picks are officially signed, and the team also brought in 12 undrafted free agents — including, in a wonderful twist, Spencer's brother Logan Fano, a defensive end. The Fano brothers are relishing the chance to suit up together after competing against each other growing up (video), and let's just say their sibling rivalry sounds... intense. Good thing they can channel that energy on the practice field now.
The Browns also claimed defensive tackle Elijah Chatman off waivers from the Giants, adding some defensive line depth while camp builds. And AFC Notes from around the division are worth a look if only to see further praise for the Browns draft class.
On the league front, the NFL and its referees ratified a new 7-year CBA, locking in officiating stability through the decade, so at least we're pretty set that the officiating won't get noticeably worse thanks to replacement refs.
Have a good one! GO BROWNS!

THE LIFT
Positive news from the world of sports and beyond...
'Star Fox' is returning this summer with a shiny 'Star Fox 64' remake for Nintendo Switch 2 full of unique features
I don't own a Nintendo Switch. In fact, my Xbox S-24-XP, or whatever the hell Microsoft's inept marketing department calls it, lies unused and dusty in my entertainment system, largely unused, because I spend all my time on my computer instead. But I might have to reconsider, given that Starfox 64 has great memories for me of playing it back in the day with my eldest daughter when she was young. I was the first to complete it, probably the last time I beat any of my children at anything video-game related. I used to be really into video games when I worked a real job, with real time off, rather than worrying about the OBR 24x7 as I do now. I have a MacBook and a Mac Mini hooked up together to do work and run AI apps, and playing with that has pushed video games to the side. Sigh.
