Superstar tight end Travis Kelce has told Kansas City Chiefs rookie Peter Woods where he must improve ahead of his rookie NFL season.

The Chiefs drafted defensive tackle Woods 29th overall in the 2026 NFL Draft out of Clemson. The 21-year-old earned rave reviews in the buildup to last month’s picking process and caused an even bigger stir at Kansas City’s rookie training camp.

The Chiefs are eyeing a rebuild this season after missing the NFL Playoffs in 2025. Coach Andy Reid will also likely have superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes back for the start of the season, with the three-time Super Bowl winner ahead of schedule in his recovery from last year’s ACL injury.

Kelce, 36, will return with the Chiefs again this upcoming season, but it’s unclear how much longer he’s got left in the league.

Still, his commitment to the Chiefs and his teammates was made clear on a new episode of his “New Heights” podcast alongside his older brother, Jason. They reviewed rookie Woods’ rookie camp footage and Kelce wasn’t shy in telling the defensive star where he must improve.

“Right here, the left arm gets [up], that's head and neck area, Peter,” Travis said. “We've got to stay away from the head and neck area. We've got to swat that ball.”

Jason defended Woods, arguing he was "trying to go for the ball" just as he should, but Travis wasn’t fully convinced. "We've got to work that technique better," Travis said.

Jason pointed out that Woods is "telegraphing it a little bit," though his overall assessment leaned positive. "I'm an all-around fan of that kind of movement," Jason said.

Travis ultimately agreed with his older brother, also a future NFL Hall of Famer. "He looked good to be that big, man," Travis said of Woods, who weighs just shy of 300lbs.

Woods has vowed to work hard and remain grateful for his opportunity in Kansas City. “Somehow, as a guy, it's looking to be on the rise. I feel like I'm never satisfied. I'm never where I want to be,” Woods told the media.

“If you guys do what I do, and get better at, I'd probably run you off the list. You probably think I'm great at it, and that's just not my mindset, and that's why, you know, I'm able to be here every day, you know, speaking to you guys.

“And it's driving me crazy if I got rid of that, just because I, quote-unquote, made it. You know, there's so much work to be done, so much to learn, you know.

“I'm blessed to be in a room with better than Chris Jones, and be under Andy Reid, who has done it so many times.

"So just the situation is probably more of a blessing than anything else.”
