Chelsea’s apparent interest in Jonathan Rowe is continuing to cause alarm at Bologna, who don’t want to lose the winger this summer.
Gazzetta dello Sport report that the Italian side face a real fight to keep Rowe this summer, amid interest from Chelsea and others.
Chelsea rumours won’t go away
The newspaper explains that Galatasaray are currently at the front of the queue for Jonathan Rowe at this moment in time.
They’re set to send Noa Lang back to Napoli and want a replacement. Rowe is on their list thanks to a season which has acted as a ‘powerful springboard’ for him. The 23-year-old has seven goals and four assists in 41 games.
But Galatasaray aren’t the only ones interested. There could also be an English offensive ‘specifically Chelsea’. They scouted the winger last month, with Manchester United.
Bologna are more than aware of growing rumours that ‘persistently suggest’ that Chelsea are preparing an offer of €38m. The only thing stopping them, at present, is they may not be in the Champions League next season.
That, it seems, is something Rowe would want from a move. Gazzetta say the ‘player’s desire remains important’ when it comes to Bologna’s hopes of keeping him. That desire could be European football.
The Italian side certainly don’t want to lose him after a year. But they know ‘the danger’s exist’ and Chelsea are one of the clubs who fall into the dangerous category.
Do Chelsea need Jonathan Rowe?
The question is if they’ll be able to move, particularly at €38m. The Blues finance are tight, to say the least.
The current squad is also bloated as well. It already boasts Alejandro Garnacho and Jamie Gittens on the left wing, while Pedro Neto is comfortable playing on that side as well. At least one of those would surely have to go before they’d move for Jonathan Rowe this summer.
Still, in Italy at least, they see Chelsea as a threat. Bologna are growing convinced they could lose their star man, and Chelsea are among those keen.
