Cole Palmer and his future at Chelsea has become a major talking point after Man Utd were linked with a summer move. However, despite the rumours and Chelsea’s difficult season, United have now decided against making an expensive move for the English midfielder.
Man Utd on Cole Palmer transfer talk
Man Utd have decided not to make a move for Chelsea star Cole Palmer this summer. The decision has surprised many fans because Palmer has been linked with a return to Manchester for months. He was once part of Man City’s academy, and he could be open to moving back north if Chelsea missed out on Champions League football.
According to reports, United believe signing Palmer would be too expensive and not the right move for the club at this stage. Palmer signed a long contract with Chelsea until 2033 and reportedly earns around 150,000 pounds per week. Chelsea would demand at least 90 million for him. That figure alone has pushed the Red Devils away from the deal.
Cole Palmer’s season, as per stats:
Tournaments Matches Goals Assists Avg Match Rating
Premier League 23 9 1 7.07
FA Cup 2 0 0 6.33
EFL Cup 1 0 0 6.04
Champions League 4 1 2 7.05

Chelsea struggles increases Cole Palmer rumours
Chelsea’s poor season has played a big role in the transfer rumours around Palmer. The London club have gone through another difficult year, changing managers twice and falling behind in the race for Champions League qualification. A six game losing run also increased pressure at the club.
Still, Chelsea remain calm about the situation. Club officials see Palmer as one of the main faces of their long term project. Even though his form has fallen compared to last season, there is still huge belief in his talent. His recent displays have even created doubts about his place in England’s Thomas Tuchel’s World Cup plans.
But despite all the noise around him, Chelsea are not expected to open the door for transfer talks this summer. The club invested heavily in Palmer and still believe he can become one of the best attacking midfielders in Europe.

Man Utd to focus on other areas
Man United’s decision also comes down to their current squad needs. The club spent heavily last summer on attacking players like Benjamin Sesko, Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo. At the same time, Bruno Fernandes is enjoying one of the best seasons of his career. The Red Devils believe the Portuguese midfielder already fills the creative role Palmer would likely play.
Instead of signing another attacking midfielder, the club are focusing on improving other areas of the squad. Veteran midfielder Casemiro and Manuel Ugarte could both leave Old Trafford, while defender Matthijs de Ligt is also expected to move on after injury problems.
United officials see Palmer as a luxury signing rather than a necessary one. Financial Fair Play concerns still important for many Premier League clubs, spending close to 100 million on one player will not be a smart decision for them right now.
For Palmer, the focus now will be ending the season strongly with Chelsea. He still has time to recover his best form and remind everyone why he became one of the brightest young stars in English football so quickly.

Author’s Opinion
In my opinion, the Red Devils made the correct decision by avoiding an expensive move for Cole Palmer this summer. Palmer is clearly talented, but Man United have bigger problems to solve in defence and midfield. Chelsea should also stay patient because difficult seasons can happen, especially for young creative players under constant pressure.
