Schefter: Former Steelers WR Scotty Miller Signing With Bears

After attending rookie minicamp on a tryout basis, former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Scotty Miller is signing with the Chicago Bears, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Miller spent the 2024 and 2025 seasons with the Steelers, mainly in a reserve position. He totaled 14 receptions for 131 yards in Pittsburgh and failed to record a touchdown. After entering the league as a sixth-round pick of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2019, Miller had his most productive season in 2020 with Tampa Bay, posting 33 receptions for 501 yards and 3 touchdowns as a deep threat for the eventual Super Bowl champions.

After four seasons in Tampa, Miller played one season with the Atlanta Falcons under head coach Arthur Smith, whom he joined in Pittsburgh when Smith was named the Steelers’ offensive coordinator in 2024.

In Chicago, Miller will join a young receiving corps led by Rome Odunze and Luther Burden III. In the offseason, Chicago traded DJ Moore to the Buffalo Bills. Miller will provide veteran depth and speed as a deep threat in the Bears’ offense. Miller will likely sign for the veteran minimum and will surely be in competition for a roster spot. His versatility, including as a returner and a gunner on the punt team, will work in his favor as he fights for a job on the 53-man roster.

The fact that Miller attended the Bears’ rookie minicamp is not a great sign of league-wide interest in his services this offseason. However, upon signing his contract, he’ll now get a shot in training camp to crack Chicago’s 53-man roster. Miller also reportedly had a visit with the Detroit Lions last week but failed to sign with them.

The Steelers upgraded the wide receiver position this offseason, trading for Michael Pittman Jr. and drafting Germie Bernard and Kaden Wetjen, who each figure to factor into the passing game. While Miller provided versatility and speed, he was never a threat in Pittsburgh’s short-yardage-heavy passing game over the last two seasons, and he now hopes to latch on and continue his career with the Bears.
