Aaron Rodgers Goes Radio Silent With Steelers Amid Pittsburgh Visit as McCarthy Weighs In on QB …

Aaron Rodgers is widely considered one of the best quarterbacks in the last two decades. The 42-year-old is still active in the NFL despite his advanced age, first starting his career after getting drafted by the Green Bay Packers in 2005. He is currently coming off a season in Pittsburgh.

However, Rodgers has delayed his talks with the Pittsburgh Steelers, casting doubt on whether he will rejoin them for the 2026 season. A new report has recently emerged regarding the situation.

Aaron Rodgers avoids Steelers visit

Rodgers joined the Steelers in 2025 on a one-year, $13.65 million deal. He played in 16 games for them, completing 327 passes for 3,322 yards and 24 touchdowns while throwing 7 interceptions.

He is currently a free agent and is yet to sign a new contract. With delays in their contract negotiations, the franchise has placed him on a right of first refusal (UFA) tender.

According to Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reporter Gerry Dulac, Rodgers has been in Pittsburgh for several days.

Despite his presence in Pittsburgh, he has not met directly with the team or visited the South Side facility amid the ongoing three-day rookie minicamp. Contract negotiations are being handled through his agent David Dunn.

With Organized Team Activities (OTAs) starting from May 18, Rodgers is yet to finalize a deal with the franchise. General manager Omar Khan, who is in charge of the negotiations, admitted he did no know where the veteran quarterback is. He said, “I don’t know where, specifically, Aaron is. I can tell you that Aaron and I, and coach and Aaron, and Aaron’s representatives have had good conversations since the season ended and since Mike [McCarthy] got hired. It’s been positive, but, yeah, I don’t know where he is at this moment.”

While there is no certainty about whether Rodgers will sign a new contract, head coach Mike McCarthy weighed in on the quarterback situation.

Mike McCarthy claims it will be “awesome” to have Aaron Rodgers back in the QB room

The Steelers currently have Mason Rudolph, Will Howard, and rookie Drew Allar in their quarterback room. Mike McCarthy has previously worked with Rodgers for more than a decade with the Packers. He was recently asked about Rodgers joining his team as the fourth quarterback.

He replied, “The ideal is to have three guys. I mean, three quarterbacks is the normal. Four would be awesome.”

McCarthy has been positive about the former Packers quarterback’s return, previously saying it would be a “great story.”

It remains to be seen whether Aaron Rodgers will be returning to the Pittsburgh Steelers ahead of the 2026 NFL season.
