Pedro Porro is set for a Tottenham milestone when Leeds United visit N17 next week.
Several Tottenham Hotspur players have stepped up their games in the last few weeks under Roberto De Zerbi.
A draw and back-to-back wins has seen Spurs leapfrog West Ham United into 17th position in the table. They are out of the bottom three only temporarily, and while De Zerbi’s impact has been well-documented, it is the players who have worked hard as a team and churn out positive results.
Rodrigo Bentancur has been one of Tottenham’s standout performers since returning from injury in April. After a three-month layoff following a hamstring surgery, the central midfielder has returned to action like he’s never been out. Operating as a deep-lying playmaker, the Uruguayan international has used his experience, passing ability and reading of the game to control the tempo of play for Tottenham.
Rodrigo Bentancur calls Pedro Porro a “machine”
Ahead of Leeds United’s visit to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Bentancur heaped praise on his Spurs teammate Pedro Porro.
Like Bentancur, Pedro Porro has been a mainstay in De Zerbi’s XI, making an impact at both ends of the pitch. The Spanish international has been a vocal leader on the pitch, often rallying his teammates and picking them up in difficult situations.
Having initially joined the Lilywhites on loan from Sporting CP in January 2023, the 26-year-old has overall performed well. Porro will make his 150th appearance for Spurs when they host Leeds United on Monday evening. And Bentancur recognises Porro’s ability and availability, calling him a “machine” and “top professional”.
“Pedro is a machine. 150 games is incredible, and also a young player, you know, but I have a really good relationship with him. My family, with his family, we have barbecues at home on the children’s birthdays. He is a really good person, and this is the most important thing for me,” Bentancur spoke about Porro in an interview with Spurs Play.
“When I arrived here, he arrived after, and we speak the same language, it felt really good. He is a top professional. He works very, very well every day here [at the training ground], at home, so he deserves this moment, and he needs to enjoy it because he is still a young player and has a top future.”
Milestone appearance for Porro
Porro is set to make his 150th appearance in a Spurs shirt next week, which is in itself an achievement. The Spaniard has been a top professional, a grafter and committed individual, always wearing his heart on his sleeve and giving everything on the pitch. He started the season slowly but seems to be peaking at the crucial juncture of the campaign, as Spurs battle for their top-flight status.
No wonder Porro is wanted by some top European clubs, including Barcelona. Hopefully, the full-back delivers a strong performance on his milestone appearance and helps his team prevail against Daniel Farke’s men at home.
