Kenny Dalglish celebrates victory for Liverpool over Everton
Saturday May 10, 1986 is a date no supporter old enough to remember it will ever forget. Forty years ago today, the reds won in a highly anticipated cup final against Merseyside neighbours at Wembley.
The Blues piled on the pressure as Gary Lineker put them ahead on the 27th minute. As the second half began Liverpool teetered on the brink of going two behind but Ian Rush’s predatory instincts drew them level twelve minutes after the interval when he rounded Bobby Mimms to slide home Jan Molby’s pass.
Within six minutes after regaining parity, the Reds were in front when Craig Johnston side-footed home at the far post from Molby’s centre. Ian Rush put the seal on a powerhouse second-half performance from the champions six minutes from the end to bring the scoreline to an unrecoverable 3-1.
