Liverpool set to sign specific player this summer after dire season - journalist

**Liverpool may look to complete the signing of a new striker in the summer transfer window, according to a new claim from journalist Pete O’Rourke.**

The Reds suffered another bad day at the office on Saturday, drawing 1-1 at home to a Chelsea side who had lost their previous six Premier League matches.

For Arne Slot, it was another potential nail in his coffin, with his decision to substitute Rio Ngumoha in the second half leading to resounding boos from the Anfield crowd.

Liverpool looked toothless in the attack all day, and with Hugo Ekitike a long-term absentee, it may be that another striker is looked at in the summer.

That’s certainly the opinion of O’Rourke, who told [_Football Insider_](https://www.footballinsider247.com/liverpools-plan-to-sign-new-striker-revealed-after-huge-blow/) that the Reds may be considering it:

_“Losing Ekitike to this long-term Achilles injury was a huge blow because he was probably the one shining light of all the signings they made last summer._

_“Isak’s had a real difficult start to his Liverpool career, picking up another little niggle in the last few weeks. It’s vital for Liverpool and Isak that Isak has a good pre-season and comes back fully fit and firing for next season. Obviously, they might need to add to their striker options because of Ekitike’s injury.”_

**Another striker essential for Liverpool this summer**

-------------------------------------------------------

Another striker is a must for Liverpool, given the seriousness of Ekitike’s achilles injury, not to mention the fact that Alexander Isak has struggled to match the hype that surrounded his arrival last year.

Cody Gakpo is completely out of sorts, too, and is arguably more effective on the wing, so a fresh face is more a necessity than an added bonus for the Reds.

Hopefully, Isak is fully fit and back to his best at the start of next season, meaning he is the regular starter, but it makes complete sense to sign a striker who is happy for more of a squad role, still earning plenty of minutes.

It feels like another vital summer for Liverpool – it remains to be seen if Slot will still be in charge beyond it – and four or five top signings are essential.
