Manchester City star Jeremy Doku has admitted he wants to score "the easy tap-ins" that Raheem Sterling scored on the regular every season.

The Belgian has stood up in recent weeks with Pep Guardiola's side trying to chase down Arsenal. The winger scored twice on Monday night against Everton, including a stoppage time equaliser, and then against Brentford he broke the deadlock after an hour.

Doku has already equalled his best goalscoring season to date, and has made it a trademark to cut in from the left before producing a curled finish into the top corner. The winger admits he loves scoring "top goals" but wants to improve on his positional sense and reading of the game.

He cited how he would see Sterling score "at least five, six, seven a season" by simply being at the back post and tapping into an empty net - which he now wants to emulate.

Doku told Sky Sports: "There is one thing; when I look at my goals, all the goals this season, I don't see one tap-in. And when I look at, for example, Raheem Sterling, and his seasons at Man City, all the tap-ins that he scored, at least five, six, seven a season.

"When I look at my goals, it's all top goals, don't get me wrong, but I want to score also those goals where I just tap-in, second post, run in and tap-in, and it just adds more goals to my account. That's really the thing that I need to work on.

"These goals will come, they'll be there every time, but if I add easy goals, you have to be there - that's the aspect I want to work on. To not only stay on the side and do my actions and score those types of goals, but also the easy tap-ins"

Doku is yet to hit double figures in front of goal, despite his recent purple patch, whilst Sterling made an annual habit of being one of City's top scorers. He was among the biggest success stories when Guardiola first arrived at the Etihad.

The Englishman produced his best figures whilst wearing blue, scoring 79 times across three seasons. That included a campaign where he hit 31 in 2019/20.
