The more you look at Liverpool’s season, the harder it is to ignore how badly things have gone under Arne Slot.
This isn’t just a disappointing season anymore.
For large parts of it, Liverpool have looked miles off the level expected at this football club.
Liverpool:
* Lost the title race before Christmas
* Went out of the Champions League in the quarter-finals
* Went out of the FA Cup in the quarter-finals
* Went out of the League Cup in the fourth round
* Lost the Community Shield
The records being broken are the worrying part.
This is now Liverpool’s highest number of defeats in all competitions since 2014/15.
It’s also the club’s worst Premier League record for defeats since that same season.
And statistically they’re now the worst-performing reigning Premier League champions since Leicester City FC.
The record in big games has been poor as well.
Just two wins from 11 against top-six sides says everything.
Liverpool have:
* Lost three straight games against Manchester City FC for the first time since 1937
* Lost home and away to City in the league
* Lost home and away to Manchester United FC for the first time in years
* Even lost to bottom-of-the-table Wolverhampton Wanderers FC
And then there’s Anfield.
For years teams feared coming here.
Now Liverpool have been battered at home by:
* PSV Eindhoven (4-0)
* Nottingham Forest FC (3-0)
* Crystal Palace FC (3-0)
That should never happen at Anfield.
What’s frustrating supporters most is that nothing really seems to be improving.
The football feels slow and passive, confidence looks gone and the atmosphere around the club is getting worse every week.
That’s why more and more fans are starting to seriously question whether Slot is the right man going forward.
