Former Saints HC put a stop to Cam Jordan rumors before they could begin

New Orleans Saints edge rusher Cameron Jordan remains in free agency awaiting his next contract. Most analysts expect him to return to the bayou; however, his many connections in the NFL leave questions about his future team. Fortunately for Saints’ fans, one of the most enticing destinations is seemingly not interested.

ESPN reporter Courtney Cronin asked Chicago Bears defensive coordinator and former Saints head coach Dennis Allen about his thoughts on bringing Jordan to the Windy City. He recognized the eight-time Pro Bowler’s contributions but notes how the fit isn’t right.

“Cam’s going to be a frickin’ Hall of Fame player, is a Hall of Fame Player,” Allen said. “I don’t know that there’s been a ton of discussion about that. I think we feel pretty good about where we’re at and what we have yet, you never know what opportunities might present themselves down the road.”

Nothing is certain, but Cam Jordan returning to the Saints is becoming more likely

Dennis Allen spent 10 years with Jordan in New Orleans. Him being out of the picture eliminates one of the premier destinations and makes him resigning far more likely. This should thrill Saints’ fans, as Jordan could still be an impactful presence in Brandon Staley’s defense in 2026.

The 15-year veteran is coming off an impressive 2025 campaign with 10.5 sacks and 15 tackles for loss. He led the team in both categories and had a career revitalization, only tallying a combined six sacks in the prior two seasons. He’s clearly a perfect fit in Staley’s scheme and thrives as a 3-4 edge rusher. Jordan heading elsewhere would be a massive loss and one that they can’t afford.

The Saints’ defense is quickly getting younger, which is needed. However, that also means veteran leaders are at a premium. They’ve lost Demario Davis, Tyrann Mathieu, and Marshon Lattimore in recent years, making Jordan the last one standing. His mentorship and leadership is vital both on and off the field and something the Saints can’t replace.
