John Harbaugh Addresses Possible Odell Beckham, Giants Reunion

Odell Beckham is back in the news, as the former three-time Pro Bowler and one-time New York Giants legend could return to his former team. A first-round pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, the LSU product dominated through his first three seasons in the league, recording at least 1,300 yards and 10 touchdowns in each campaign. However, the Giants traded him to the Cleveland Browns after injuries limited him to just four games in 2017, and he was never the same.

While he had his moments with the Browns, Los Angeles Rams, and Baltimore Ravens, Beckham never made another Pro Bowl and sat out the 2025 season following an unremarkable one-season run with the Miami Dolphins. However, the wide receiver has reportedly been working out and hopes to rejoin the NFL for at least one more season. The New York Giants appear to be the most likely destination, and first-year head coach John Harbaugh recently spoke on the possibility of signing him.

John Harbaugh Addresses Potential Odell Beckham Reunion With Giants

Following the team’s rookie minicamp, Harbaugh spoke to reporters about the status of Odell Beckham.

“Talked to Odell a lot, probably three or four times in the last week [to see] where he’s at, where we’re at,” Harbaugh said, via ESPN’s Jordan Raanan. “He’s in Arizona right now, training and spending time with his son. The goal for right now is for him to train and get as ready as he can be. And then we’ll see where we’re at at that time.”

The fact that Harbaugh is apparently talking to Odell Beckham every other day certainly suggests that both player and team have an interest in a reunion. However, nobody should expect a signing any time soon based on additional comments from the head coach.

“This is the conversation that we’ve had,” Harbaugh continued. “We have just such an honest conversation about it. It’s got to be right for both parties. Odell wants to be the kind of player that can make a difference. I’m pretty sure that he can make a team in the National Football League right now. But can he make a difference, and is it something he wants to do, and is his body gonna hold up the way he wants it to?”

The Giants Depth Chart

Based on this quote, it’s safe to assume that we’re a few weeks away from the Giants signing Odell Beckham, if it ever happens. However, it’s still worth looking at New York’s depth chart to see where the former first-round pick would slot in on the roster.

On paper, former first-round pick Malik Nabers is the unquestioned WR1 in this offense. However, the wide receiver suffered a season-ending knee injury last season and needs to prove he can knock off the rust and recapture his previous form. The Giants lost their 2025 leading receiver, Wan’Dale Robinson, to the Tennessee Titans, so their next-best receivers are Darius Slayton and journeyman Darnell Mooney. Put simply, this isn’t exactly the Greatest Show on Turf.

The 2024 version of Odell Beckham probably wouldn’t be much of an improvement to this depth chart, but the 2023 version could be. Nobody expects Odell Beckham to be a 1,000-yard receiver next season, but he could be a nice complementary receiver who can help second-year quarterback Jaxson Dart reach his ceiling. It’s worth noting that Beckham under Harbaugh during his last productive season in the league. During his lone season with the Baltimore Ravens, Beckham recorded 35 receptions for 565 yards and three touchdowns in 14 games.
