Tyreek Hill is still a free agent, and it will be interesting to see what the future holds for the Hall of Fame talent. A fifth-round pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, the West Alabama product quickly became one of the league’s most dangerous deep threats and formed a near-unstoppable connection with quarterback Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs. After dominating with them for six years, Hill joined the Miami Dolphins and proved he could dominate in a new environment. The wideout led the league in receiving yards and touchdowns in 2023 and solidified his status as one of the best receivers of his generation.
Unfortunately, Tyreek Hill suffered a gruesome knee injury just four games into the 2025 season. Now entering his age-32 season and in the midst of his recovery, the eight-time Pro Bowler has yet to find a new team. Nobody knows exactly how much Hill has left in his tank, but it stands to reason that at least one team will kick the tires on him. Seeing as Jauan Jennings just signed with the Minnesota Vikings, it stands to reason that the veteran wide receiver market could start heating up. While anyone could make a move for Hill, Bleacher Report’s Paul Kasabian believes the Kansas City Chiefs and Las Vegas Raiders are the best fits.
“Hill was fantastic for the Chiefs from 2016 to 2021, posting a per-17 game average of 90 receptions for 1,239 yards and 11 touchdowns,” Kasabian writes. “Hill and quarterback Patrick Mahomes clearly formed an amazing rapport, and that could be reignited with a reunion…Wide receiver, on paper, might be a place where there’s room for improvement [on the Las Vegas Raiders], although that could very well be proven wrong this season. Still, if the Raiders want to make a move, Hill’s out there and would become the team’s WR1.”
Tyreek Hill Projected to Sign With Kansas City Chiefs or Las Vegas Raiders
Let’s start with a disclaimer: nobody will sign Tyreek Hill until he can prove he’s on the road to recovery after his horrible knee injury last year. However, for the sake of this article, let’s assume he’ll be able to play football at some point in the 2026 season.
The Chiefs are an obvious destination for Tyreek Hill for quite a few reasons. For one, there’s the obvious familiarity between Hill and the rest of the organization. The wideout entered the league with Kansas City and, while his best statistical seasons came with Miami, he still averaged over 1,200 yards per 17 games with Mahomes slinging him the football. That type of production might not be possible all these years later, but he can bring a much-needed set of hands to this offense.
Rashee Rice is the new top option in the passing attack, and Hill’s presence wouldn’t change that. However, the rest of the pass-catching group could use some work. Travis Kelce is still a good tight end, but he’s not the unstoppable force he once was, and he’s not getting any younger. Former first-round pick Xavier Worthy, meanwhile, has not played up to his draft capital. Worthy was supposed to be this team’s deep threat without Tyreek Hill, but perhaps the 10-year veteran could provide some competition for that role.
Fit With the Raiders
The Las Vegas Raiders have their quarterback of the future in Indiana’s Fernando Mendoza. Now, they need to support him. Superstar tight end Brock Bowers is already one of the game’s most dangerous weapons, and Vegas did an admirable job of improving the offensive line with key free agent signings. However, the wide receiver room leaves a lot to be desired.
Youngsters Tre Tucker and second-round pick Jack Bech have untapped potential, and Jalen Nailor is a fine veteran, but there isn’t a game-changing talent on the roster. Tyreek Hill may no longer be the most dangerous deep threat in football, but he can provide a much-needed veteran presence as Mendoza adjusts to life in the NFL.
