Philip Rivers Predicts Wild Future Connection Between Son and Grandson [video]

Philip Rivers has spent years building one of the NFL’s most recognizable football families. The former Los Angeles Chargers QB recently returned to headlines after resurfacing as an emergency option for the Indianapolis Colts late last season.

The spotlight has shifted far away from touchdowns and playoff races. A bizarre family timeline involving Rivers has football fans doing double takes. The longtime quarterback seems to think it could get even crazier in the years ahead.

The viral moment surfaced this week after MLFootball shared a clip of Rivers discussing the unusual age gap inside his family. The post highlighted that Rivers has a son who is only months older than his grandson.

Rivers and his wife, Tiffany Rivers, welcomed their 10th child, Andrew, in Oct. 2023. Roughly a year later, their oldest daughter, Halle Rivers, gave birth to Philip Rivers’ first grandson.

That setup created the wild reality that Rivers’ youngest son and grandson are growing up almost side by side.

“In a couple years, my son’s going to be throwing touchdowns to my grandson,”

The quote went viral online because it sounds almost impossible at first glance. The timeline checks out. Multiple family profiles published by TODAY in December 2025 and The Sporting News later that month confirmed Andrew Rivers was born in late 2023, while Rivers’ grandson arrived in 2024.

That family structure has become part of Rivers’ lore. The eight-time Pro Bowler already stood out during his career for traveling with a massive family and openly embracing his role as a father. Rivers and Tiffany have 10 children, including seven daughters and three sons.

The former Chargers signal-caller also built a reputation for balancing football with family life better than most NFL stars. During his 17-year run in San Diego and Los Angeles, Rivers threw for more than 63,000 passing yards and started 240 consecutive regular-season games.

Rivers stayed connected to football even after retiring following the 2020 season with the Indianapolis Colts. He became the HC at St. Michael Catholic High School in Alabama while also drawing interest from television networks.

Rivers’ son, Gunner Rivers, is already emerging as a legitimate quarterback prospect. Reports consider the Class of 2027 recruit a four-star prospect with major college offers.

The football bloodline inside the Rivers family keeps growing. Given the family’s history around the sport, fans are not completely ruling anything out.
