Liverpool could see £30m bid accepted to sign new defender with an "extraordinary profile" -…

Liverpool have now received the green light to sign Juventus star Andrea Cambiaso in the summer transfer window.

Danny Murphy has suggested the Reds may need to think about re-entering the market for new options at full-back this summer, with summer signings Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez failing to step up to the plate.

Murphy said: "The new signings apart from Ekitike, Wirtz, I know he is out injured, he has had a pickle, but full-back areas, problem. Frimpong not as good as Trent, Kerkez can’t do what Robertson could do."

The need to bring in a new left-back will be exacerbated when Andy Robertson moves on, with the Scot set to end his nine-year stint at Anfield this summer, at which point his contract comes to an end.

With Murphy suggesting Arne Slot has problems on both sides of his defence, it may be a savvy move to bring in a player capable of playing at right-back and left-back, and Cambiaso fits the bill in that regard.

Journalist Carlo Garganese has also lauded the Juventus star for his ability to slot into midfield when required.

New update on Liverpool's pursuit of Andrea Cambiaso

There has now been a development in Liverpool's pursuit of Cambiaso, with a report from TEAMtalk revealing they have been told Juventus are willing to sanction a transfer this summer, and a £30m price tag is touted.

The Reds want to bring in a full-back capable of featuring in midfield, which means the Italian, who doesn't have weak foot, fits the bill, but there could be competition for his signature from Premier League rivals Manchester United and Arsenal.

Not only has Garganese been full of praise for the 26-year-old, but he has also been lauded by Juventus teammate Kenan Yildiz, who said: "He is an extraordinary player with incredible skill. Having someone like him on the field is crucial, both in attack and defense."

Arne Slot defends decision to substitute Rio Ngumoha

Liverpool are making plans for the summer transfer window amid a backdrop of discontent, with supporters booing the decision to replace Rio Ngumoha with Alexander Isak in the 1-1 draw against Chelsea.

However, Slot has now explained the decision, saying*: "Rio was not injured. He had cramp before then and he went to the floor and I had contact with him. That’s why I took him off.*

"It makes complete sense [to boo] if you take a player off that is playing well, that assisted. People don’t expect you to take that player off, it wasn’t my intention to do.

"He is a good player but I don’t think he is at a level yet to play at 50 or 60 percent to make the difference. Maybe the fans have a different opinion and he would have been able to play at this level at 50 or 60 percent – I don’t know but not being fit enough to sprint."

The Dutchman is under increasing pressure, having failed to build on the title-winning 2024-25 campaign, and a Premier League manager is in the frame to replace him.
