James Pearce: FSG'imminently face big decision over the fate of Arne Slot'

Fabrizio Romano reports that Liverpool will continue with Arne Slot, stating that they haven’t made contact with a single manager even to explore their options.

Anfield rang with boos after the 1-1 draw with Chelsea. After losing 3-2 away to Manchester United last week, the home stalemate with the Blues felt like the final straw for the Kop.

Speaking on YouTube, Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano once again reiterated that Liverpool will keep faith with Slot despite the Dutch manager being booed down the Anfield tunnel.

Romano said: “At the moment, the feeling at Liverpool, I can confirm that it is absolutely in the direction that they want to continue with Slot. Why? Because so far, and it’s May now, it’s no longer February, March, or April.

“In May, Liverpool have not made contact with any other manager. There were many rumours on Liverpool making contact with Alonso coming from Germany, but I can guarantee that Liverpool this year never made any direct approach with Alonso or with his agents.”

James Pearce, however, says that a big decision on Slot’s future awaits FSG, hinting that perhaps the Dutch manager’s future is not guaranteed.

Pearce: FSG ‘imminently face big decision over the fate of Arne Slot’

Writing in his column for The Athletic on Sunday morning, Pearce writes that Liverpool owners FSG face an imminent decision over what to do with their much-maligned manager.

He wrote: “FSG will imminently face a similarly big decision over the fate of Arne Slot.”

Pearce continued: “Everything up until now has pointed to them standing by the Dutchman. There is sympathy with what he’s had to contend with this season — from the loss of Diogo Jota last July to the succession of crushing injury setbacks.

“Unlike Rodgers, Slot is a Premier League title-winner and should still salvage Champions League qualification from the wreckage of this campaign.

“But the mutinous mood inside Anfield on Saturday sent a clear message to the hierarchy about the scale of the unrest. It felt like this was the day when patience truly snapped. A Liverpool manager hadn’t faced this level of dissent on home turf since the final throes of Roy Hodgson’s tenure in late 2010.”

It’s clear: FSG must be bold and part ways with Slot

This season, Arne Slot has not shown evidence that he is the right manager for Liverpool.

Yes, he did win the Premier League in his first season in England. But to that, I pose a question: how much of that title win was owed to the squad and tactics Jurgen Klopp spent nine years establishing?

The main reason, in my opinion, that Liverpool won the Premier League last season was because Mohamed Salah delivered a record-breaking season.

Salah scored 29 goals and assisted 18 last season – a feat unmatched in a 38-game season. This only happened because Slot played the winger in a more advanced role, relieving him of any of his defensive responsibilities.

So, for Slot to stop catering to Salah this season is a baffling decision, with the consequences unsurprising.
