Chelsea have been linked with Arsenal player Ethan Nwaneri
Chelsea are firmly on alert over a potential summer move for Arsenal‘s Ethan Nwaneri, with the Gunners now believed to be open to selling the 19-year-old attacking midfielder for a fee in the £35–40 million range, as reported by Mark Brus of Caught Offside.
Arsenal initially sent Nwaneri on loan to Marseille in January 2026 to get him regular senior football, but the move has gone downhill. French newspaper L’Equipe mentioned a “persistent impression of nonchalance” regarding his performances, and Marseille manager Habib Beye publicly stated that Nwaneri failed to match the daily commitment standards the squad expected.
He hasn’t started a single match in the last two months of his loan, picking up just 381 minutes across all competitions. Since Nwaneri came through Arsenal’s Hale End academy, any transfer would go down as pure profit for the club’s PSR accounting, which is a financial boost that makes a sale much more tempting. Borussia Dortmund, Juventus, and AC Milan are also keeping an eye on things, but Chelsea’s interest is the most serious among the clubs tracking developments.
Nwaneri has real quality as his vision, close control, and left-foot creativity in tight spaces are stand-out traits. However, questions about his attitude and application at the senior level aren’t easy to ignore in a £40 million signing.

Would Chelsea actually be better off signing Nwaneri over a proven alternative?
Chelsea should look at this deal realistically rather than getting caught up in the hype. The Cole Palmer comparison is easy to make, but Palmer arrived from Manchester City having already shown an elite work ethic in training. Nwaneri is coming off the back of attitude concerns raised by two different managers.
£70m Chelsea star has been told to leave with Barcelona keen on completing transfer
Chelsea already have plenty of options in attacking positions, so buying a player who struggled to get game time in Ligue 1 is a massive risk. The price tag is fair, and there is no doubting the talent, but Chelsea need players who can contribute for the 2026/27 season, not long-term projects. They should be careful with this one.
