Enzo Le Fée delivers transfer verdict after Liverpool links and sends message to Sunderland fans

Enzo Le Fée addressed Liverpool links and explained why he has built such a strong bond with Sunderland fans

Enzo Le Fée insists he is happy at Sunderland and fully focused on the final two games of the season after being linked with a move to Liverpool.

The French midfielder produced another impressive display in Sunderland’s 0-0 draw with Manchester United at the Stadium of Light, operating in his preferred number ten role and helping Régis Le Bris’ side dominate large spells of the game.

Le Fée has quickly become a firm favourite among Sunderland supporters, not only because of his quality on the ball, but also because of his willingness to fight, press and compete physically in the Premier League. Asked about his relationship with the Sunderland fans, Le Fée said: “I’ve enjoyed a lot of my time here since I came, since the first day.

“I think we’ve got a really good relationship between me and the fans. I think it’s because of them, because I’ve had a really good welcome. Of course, sometimes they can like what I do. They say it’s a bit of magic, but they also like it because I fight. I’m small, I’m not a big guy, but I give 100 per cent in every duel. Sometimes I can lose some duels, but I will give 100 per cent every time. I think that’s what they like.”

That mix of flair and fight has made Le Fée a natural fit on Wearside, with Sunderland fans traditionally taking to players who combine quality with commitment. Le Fée added: “Yes, I think I love this part. It’s my first season as a professional, because before, I wasn’t someone who could fight like this. But I knew that if I wanted to be the top player I needed, I needed this part. So I keep working on this one.”

Le Fée’s form has inevitably led to speculation, with Liverpool among the clubs linked with the Sunderland midfielder. But asked directly about the transfer talk and how happy he is working under Le Bris, who he has known for many years, the 26-year-old made clear his focus is elsewhere.

He said: “I think he gave me a lot since I’m 12 now. I enjoy working under him. It’s always good to hear something like this, but it’s only the media part. I just care about the end of the season. I think we’ve got two big games now, and I’m only focused on the pitch.”

Sunderland’s draw with Manchester United left them 12th in the Premier League table on 48 points from 36 matches, level with Everton and Fulham and three points behind eighth-placed Brentford. European qualification remains a long shot, but it is still not completely off the table heading into the final two games.

Le Bris’ side knows they will almost certainly need maximum points to give themselves any chance of extending their season beyond domestic football. Sunderland travel to Everton next before finishing the campaign at the Stadium of Light against Chelsea on the final day.
