The message out of Liverpool is that they want to and will stick with Arne Slot next season, but the boos for the Dutchman and his players after the draw with Chelsea on Saturday were very telling of where the fans stand.
Liverpool have clearly and understandably been impacted by some huge events in the last 12 months after winning the Premier League title, losing Diogo Jota before the new season and then club-record signing Alexander Isak struggling with injury issues throughout the campaign.
While the club can rightly point to those incidents, among others, there is no hiding away from the fact that the Reds' defence of their Premier League title has been miserable.
With two games of the season remaining they lie in fourth position, 20 points behind leaders Arsenal.
Everyone associated with the club would have expected better, with a Champions League exit to Paris Saint-Germain disappointing, although the French club could turn out to be the winners as they prepare to face Arsenal in Budapest later this month.
Despite any mitigating circumstances, Liverpool fans are demanding and this season hasn't been good enough, and they are entitled to make their feelings known.
Time for Arne Slot to go
Liverpool manager Arne Slot shouts vs Manchester United
While Slot has credit in the bank and the hierarchy feel he deserves another summer and next season to put things right, when the crowd has turned on you it can be difficult to repair things.
The Reds are already losing two key experienced players in Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson at the end of the season, and the club will know they need to source a top-class replacement for the former in particular.
Maybe the club's mindset will change once we reach the summer, but it looks more and more apparent that they may need to make a change and have a completely fresh start next term.
Liverpool Could Hire Iraola For Free
Andoni Iraola
Andoni Iraola had quietly been doing a very, very good job at Bournemouth, but his stock has risen hugely in recent months.
With two Premier League matches to go, the Cherries lie in sixth position, four points adrift of both Liverpool and Aston Villa above them.
Sides know that a top-five finish in the top flight will guarantee a Champions League spot for next season, but sixth will also be enough if Villa finish in the top five and win the Europa League.
That now isn't beyond the realms of possibility after Unai Emery's side reached the final after beating Nottingham Forest, with the Spaniard known for being a specialist when it comes to winning the competition.
Bournemouth have put themselves in that position with a 16-match unbeaten run since January, when they lost key man Antoine Semenyo to Manchester City.
Iraola has got his side to react strongly to setbacks of losing important players before, and this is just the latest example.
The 43-year-old, who has been labelled as 'elite' by Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp, won't be Bournemouth manager next season though after confirming he will leave when his contract expires at the end of the season.
That means the Spaniard is available for free, and given his Premier League management experience and given he doesn't play with an ill-fated back three, he would actually be an Alonso upgrade for the club right now.
Iraola has emerged as the main contender to Michael Carrick for the permanent Manchester United job, but with Football FanCast reporting that the Spaniard is keen on joining Liverpool, they must go all out to win the race for one of the most exciting young managers in Europe.
