Touching images have revealed Sean Cox gifting Mo Salah a special leaving gift as a token of thanks for his years of support.
In 2018, Cox suffered life-changing injuries after an unprovoked attack by Roma thugs outside Anfield ahead of the Champions League semi-final.
The father of three suffered severe brain injuries that left him unable to speak or walk, and Liverpool’s staff and players have shown constant support throughout his recovery.
He was at Anfield for the draw against Chelsea, having been invited as a guest of CEO Billy Hogan, and it was then that he reunited with Salah and presented him with a special leaving gift.
The Egyptian, who has met with Cox on his various returns to Anfield, was presented with a jersey from Cox’s local Gaelic Athletic Association club, St Peter’s in Dunboyne.
The shirt had Salah’s name and number on the back, and as per the Irish Independent, a special message under the crest written in Irish, which translates to:
“You’ll Never Walk Alone – thanks a million, Mo. From the Cox family.”
As per the GAA club’s Facebook account, the jersey “symbolises the lasting connection between Sean, the Cox family, Dunboyne, and the Liverpool community.”
It is a reflection of the man Salah is, and the continual support shown from the club to Sean and his family over the last eight years.
Liverpool supporters have also played a big part in raising money to support Cox’s rehabilitation, with millions raised for his therapy and alterations to the family home to enable him to recover and live more easily.
