People might've thought that Alvin Kamara was 100% going to be a part of the New Orleans Saints next season. However, Kellen Moore cast some doubt on that idea of the team captain being a part of the team when September rolls around.
After dodging back-to-back questions about Kamara's future, Moore was asked straight-up if the running back will be on the team this fall. Once again, he gave a non-answer. "I think we're just evaluating the roster as a whole. We're always trying to acquire as many talented players as we can, and this rookie process will be a part of it," he said to the media. "Obviously we know what Alvin means to us. We love Alvin. We've gone through this process, and we'll continue to go through it."
This is a change of the narrative after Kamara himself said last week that he'd be back in New Orleans "soon." The comments of the head coach have honestly made the situation more confusing than it should be. Hopefully, the Who Dat Nation won't have to continue to go through it for long, but at this rate, it'll be with the team all off-season.
If Alvin Kamara doesn't play in 2026, it'll be a huge loss for the Saints
Kellen Moore and Co. very obviously have backup plans in case Kamara isn't in New Orleans next year. They've restructured his contract and have signed another running back. However, they better hope that Alvin Kamara is in their uniform next season. His top-of-the-chart balance, athleticism, and versatility on top of the million other things he has in his tool belt make him a one-of-a-kind player. Not to mention his locker room presence as a three-time team captain.
Kamara's leadership off the field have honestly been one of the more underreported parts about him over his career. At least, when looking at the grand scheme of things. Although if you look closer, then you'll see that he's been a team player his whole career. Especially during the 2023 season, which was one of the toughest years in recent memory for the Saints.
If the team isn't rolling out with Kamara next season, then something has gone wrong. Hopefully they figure things out soon, because a Saints team without Kamara is just plain weird. The back-and-forth and ups and downs of the situation are also getting exhausting.
