Rams schedule holds greater than comfortable risk of playing in winter's worst

The Los Angeles Rams know two things about their 2026 NFL schedule already. The first is that of the 17 regular-season games, one will be played in Melbourne, Australia. That's right, LA will host the San Francisco 49ers on Thursday, September 10, 2026, at 5:25 pm PT. That means that the team will be racking up miles right away.

The second thing known about the Rams schedule is that due to traveling to face both the Washington Commanders and the Philadelphia Eagles on the road. This team has a greater chance of facing winter's worst at some point in the season.

While playing football in the snow can be a great deal of fun, compounded with traveling across the country and competing in an entirely different time zone, it puts LA at a distinct disadvantage.

Los Angeles faced Philadelphia in a blizzard not so long ago and lost that NFL Divisional Round game by a score of 28 to 22. It was a game that flashed signs of brilliance, but the snow and Eagles running back Saquon Barkley proved to be too much. Now, Rams fans hope to avoid similar circumstances in 2026.

Rams have reformed to be more competitive in snow

Even as LA Rams running back Kyren William had his own impressive game in the snow, racing for 106 yards on just 19 carries, the team's roster has been reformed and should compete well in the snow if the need arises this season.

For starters, LA ramped up the defense by adding nose tackles Poona Ford and rookie Tim Keenan to stuff the run. And the team was pleased with veteran inside linebacker Nate Landman's control of the defense last season. The results showed up a year ago, as the defense corralled more than a half-dozen of the league's best running backs.

Perhaps the most drastic changes occurred on offense, where the team pivoted to 13-personnel packages with outstanding success. Not only did the bigger-bodied offense do well, but it also powered the team to the top-scoring offense in the league. And the roster got even stronger with the addition of smolderingly hot rookie tight end Max Klare.

Perhaps a game in winter';s worst may not be the disaster for LA that it once was. And if that's the case, then plenty of fans may be saying "Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow," before season's end.

As always, thanks for reading.
