Liverpool’s summer transfer window may still be a matter of weeks away, but Jeremy Jacquet is already a confirmed signing.
The 20-year-old centre-back officially became a Liverpool player in all but name back in January, when the Reds announced a £60 million deal – £55m upfront with a further £5m in performance-related add-ons – to sign the Rennes defender on Deadline Day.

The move made Jacquet the second most expensive centre-back in Liverpool’s history, behind only the iconic Virgil van Dijk, and was completed after the club fended off strong interest from Chelsea to secure the France Under-21 international’s signature.
As part of the agreement, Jacquet remained at Stade Rennais for the remainder of the 2025/26 Ligue 1 season. But that did not go according to plan.
Playing in Rennes’ Ligue 1 clash against Lens during early February, Jacquet was forced off early after suffering a serious left shoulder injury.
After undergoing extensive medical evaluations and consultations with specialists, surgery was confirmed in the coming days. The player later confirmed the operation had been a success.
As Stade Rennais played their final home game of the 2025/26 season, Jacquet was present to bid farewell to the supporters who had watched him grow from academy prospect to one of the most coveted young defenders in Europe:
“I arrived here 11 or 12 years ago, I didn’t always have easy beginnings, whether at the academy or here,” Jacquet said as quoted by ICI Armorique.
“They didn’t give up on me, even when things started going well for me, they encouraged me every second. So thank you to them.”
He added that he’s already started the process of moving himself and his life over to Merseyside:
“Yeah, I’ve got time for that. I’ve already started, but I have time.”
Jacquet will officially be starting his Liverpool contract on 1st July 2026.
