Future Liverpool signing Jeremy Jacquet has already started preparing for life in Merseyside after saying farewell to Rennes fans on the club's final home game of the season.
Liverpool agreed to sign Jacquet on Feb. 2 and will pay Rennes a guaranteed $82.2 million, with a possible $7 million in add-ons. However, the 20-year-old defender hasn't played since agreeing to sign for Liverpool after suffering a serious shoulder injury.
Jacquet underwent shoulder surgery in March and is expected to be fully fit this summer when Liverpool begins preseason. Jacquet will join Liverpool on a U.S. tour, and his move is inching closer after waving goodbye to fans at Roazhon Park.

Rennes beat Paris FC 2-1 on Sunday to keep hopes of Champions League qualification alive and guarantee a European spot. Jacquet wasn't involved in the game due to his shoulder injury, but he was presented on the pitch before kick-off.
Jacquet joined the Rennes academy in 2019 and, after playing for the youth team, made his debut during the 2023-24 season. Rennes presented him with a framed graphic highlighting his time at the club, and Jacquet gave a farewell speech to the fans.
"I arrived here 11 or 12 years ago. I didn’t always have easy beginnings, whether at the academy or here,” Jacquet said. "They didn’t give up on me, even when things started going well for me, they encouraged me every second. So thank you to them."

Jacquet was then asked about his impending move to Liverpool and whether he'd already gotten to know the city. "Yeah, I’ve got time for that. I’ve already started, but I have time," he said.
Liverpool has desperately needed depth at center-back after failing to land England international Marc Guehi, whose move collapsed on deadline day last summer. He then joined Crystal Palace in January, and Liverpool pivoted to Jacquet.
Jacquet's injury was a setback as his progression and experience were delayed, and fellow Liverpool prospect Giovanni Leoni suffered a season-ending injury on his Liverpool debut. Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate have continued to start for Liverpool at the back.

Van Dijk is set to enter the final 12 months of his deal, and Konate is in talks over an extension. Joe Gomez has also been a rotation player, but Jacquet is eager to get involved.

The young defender has made only 31 league appearances for Rennes but has impressed at both club and youth international levels. Rennes released a statement on Jacquet's behalf when he signed for Liverpool.
"I am honored to sign for Liverpool, one of the greatest football institutions in the world," Jacquet said. "It was also very important for me to finish my time in red and black on a high, at my boyhood club, the club of my heart.
"I'm approaching this second half of the season with the desire to experience some great moments with my teammates and the fans."
