Broncos Undrafted Rookie Spotlight: Cam Ross brings lightning speed to wide receiver group

Following the 2026 NFL Draft, the Denver Broncos moved quickly in the process to sign players who went undrafted, and Virginia wide receiver Cameron Ross was one of the first players they came to terms with.

Ross is on the smaller side, but he possesses the one trait that can separate good players from great ones at the next level, and that's incredible speed.

Name: Cam Ross

Height: 5-foot-11

Weight: 186 pounds

Position: Wide Receiver

School: Virginia

Ross played for three different programs in college, starting at UConn before moving to James Madison and then transferring to Virginia to finish up his time in the NCAA. He was effective in all three stops and though he didn't post eye-popping numbers, he did enough to be a priority free-agent signing following the draft.

For his college career, he caught 134 passes for 1,538 yards and six touchdowns. He averaged 11.4 yards per catch. He doesn't possess elite traits and doesn't have incredible size. The way he wins is with his speed and route-running to gain enough separation to create windows to throw the ball into. At his Pro Day, he posted a 4.42-second 40-yard dash.

Chances to make final 53-man roster (1-10 scale): 1.5

It's going to be difficult for any of the four undrafted wide receivers the Broncos signed to make this year's team, barring a trade. Jaylen Waddle, Courtland Sutton, Marvin Mims Jr., Troy Franklin and Pat Bryant will all almost certainly make the team. Sean Payton will likely keep a sixth wide receiver, which would likely be Lil'Jordan Humphrey for his ability as a blocker in the running game.

Ross has already gotten noticed in the team's rookie minicamp, so he has a small feather in his cap heading into training camp, which will open in July. Still, unless the Broncos were to trade one of the top five wide receivers on the roster, there won't be room for him anywhere but the practice squad.

That could be a great place for him to start, however, in order for him to develop his skills and perhaps become an option in the return game for the team. The Broncos are going to need some options in the future and Ross could develop into a sneaky option out of the slot.
