Sky News reporter shares 'private jet' hint about FSG talks with Alonso

A Sky Sports reporter has teased that Liverpool may be making moves to bring Xabi Alonso to Anfield this summer, despite recent claims that Arne Slot will be in charge next season.

Supporters booed Slot at full-time against Chelsea, after his team played out a 1-1 draw. The result came a week after the 3-2 Old Trafford defeat to Manchester United as this season draws to a close.

Liverpool have just two games left of the Premier League season against Aston Villa and Brentford. There remains a slim chance that the Reds could end the season without Champions League qualification.

Many fans are convinced that Slot is not the right fit for Liverpool, with a Sky Sports reporter now hinting that FSG could be moving to make Alonso his replacement.

Sky News reporter shares private plan info suggesting that talks with Alonso could be underway

Reports in recent weeks appear to affirm that Slot will remain at Anfield in the summer and into next season.

That said, James Pearce did report after the 1-1 draw with Chelsea that FSG face a tough decision over Slot’s future. He wrote: “FSG will imminently face a similarly big decision over the fate of Arne Slot.”

Now, however, it could be that FSG are exploring their options with Alonso.

Reporting via X, Sky Sports and Daily Mirror journalist Nicholas Bieber reports that private plan activity could be a hint that Liverpool decision makers could be meeting with Alonso over taking the Anfield manager job.

Bieber reports: “Liverpool meeting Alonso? This morning a private jet was scheduled to fly from Northolt (closest toLFC‘s London HQ) to San Sebastián (where Alonso lives). An hour earlier, a flight from Florida (where FSG has many links) was due at Northolt, but diverted to Luton.

“Since then, the flight to San Sebastián has now departed from Luton instead of Northolt…”

Bieber did provide a necessary caveat to this information, saying it “could all just be one big coincidence.”

Desperation for a new direction is increasing speculation to new levels

Summer silly season is officially upon us if we’re clutching at straws like this, but such is the discontent among supporters at Slot’s performance this season, fans are desperate for some type of indication that FSG are ready to course correct.

It would represent a major departure from the bulk of reporting to see any news of Slot leaving the club.

Reports last week claimed Ajax had been in contact with Arne Slot about a return to the Eredivisie, but that’s the biggest hint we’ve had for a while regarding the coach’s future.
