Brandon Aubrey's record-breaking extension with Cowboys already gets matched by AFC kicker

Brandon Aubrey has been one of the best kickers in the NFL since signing with the Dallas Cowboys in 2023.

Aubrey has been selected to the Pro Bowl and an All-Pro team in each of his first three seasons, and is 35 of 44 on field goal attempts from 50 plus yards in his career.

Due to his elite play over the last few years, the Cowboys rewarded Aubrey with a four-year extension worth $28 million in April, which made him the highest-paid kicker in league history.

However, just weeks later, Aubrey's contract with Dallas has been matched, as another star kicker has landed a lucrative extension with their team.

Chris Boswell matches Aubrey's contract in Steelers extension

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported on Monday that the Steelers are signing kicker Chris Boswell to the same contract Aubtey received from the Cowboys. It's a four-year deal worth $28 million, with $7 million annually for Boswell.

"Steelers have agreed to terms with K Chris Boswell on a four-year, $28 million extension. The $7 million average per year ties him with Brandon Aubrey for highest paid kicker in NFL history, per CAA Football. Boswell is now locked in with the Steelers through the 2030 season," Schefter reported.

Boswell has been the Steelers' kicker since 2015 and has been getting better and better with age. The 35-year-old earned a first-team All-Pro nod in 2024 by leading the NFL in field goals made (41) with as 93.2% field goals made rate.

In 2025, Boswell hit 84.4% of his field goals (27/32), and was 9 of 11 from 50 plus yards.

Boswell and Aubrey are two of the best kickers in the sport, so it makes sense that they are tied for the highest paid at the position. With Aubrey being a bit younger than Boswell at 31, we could see him cash in once again on a massive contract, depending on whether he can keep up his stellar play.
