Adrian Peterson, Minnesota Vikings
It has now been a decade since Adrian Peterson played for the Minnesota Vikings. He last stepped on a football field during the 2021 NFL season, and he’s just one year shy of eligibility for enshrinement in Canton.
Before he expectedly becomes a first ballot Hall of Famer though, the Minnesota Vikings are set to honor him among their ring of honor. Although Peterson has yet to officially file retirement papers, the 41-year old has all but called it quits.
There always should have been an expectation that Peterson’s name and number 28 would be added to the oval around U.S. Bank Stadium, but it doesn’t make the honor any less exciting.
Minnesota Vikings hand Adrian Peterson top recognition honor
The Minnesota Vikings have routinely welcomed Adrian Peterson back to the facility. He was around for the Draft Party last season, and was in the building last week to speak with incoming rookies. This time though, the franchise had something special up their sleeves.
What started as a trip to talk to the rookies ended with a Ring of Honor surprise.

MN Vikings legend John Randle burst onto Peterson’s set with Vikings staff writer Lindsey Young and said he needed to show All Day something. Pulling back a curtain, Peterson saw a collection of personalized memorabilia along with a jacket to signify his inclusion in the Ring of Honor.
Head coach Kevin O’Connell was there to shake hands with the former legendary running back. Peterson was also able to gaze upon his plaque installed alongside the other Ring of Honor inductees. An official ceremony will take place during a 2026 Minnesota Vikings home game.
Owners Zygi and Mark Wilf both offered statements in the wake of Peterson’s significant honor.

Peterson’s MN Vikings impact lives on
Among the best running backs to ever play the game, Adrian Peterson is among the last of the first round selections at the position to live up to the hype. Taken 7th overall out of Oklahoma, the seven-time Pro Bowl selection, and four-time All-Pro, should waltz into the Hall of Fame as a first-ballot selection.
He was named league MVP in 2012, and finished with 14,918 career rushing yards (5th all time). He came just nine yards shy of breaking Eric Dickerson’s single-season rushing record (2,105 yards) in 2012, and scored a career 120 rushing touchdowns.

Peterson, despite his size, was dynamic as a receiver in limited run as well. He hauled in 305 passes for 2,474 yards and six touchdowns. Four different times he led the league in per-game rushing, including his Rookie of the Year winning season in 2007.
Heralded by fans in Vikings territory as Purple Jesus, any opportunity to celebrate the greatness of Peterson is something that Minnesotans will sign up for.
