The San Antonio Spurs lost Victor Wembanyama early in the second quarter Sunday night against the Minnesota Timberwolves, after he hit Naz Reid with a horizontal elbow into his chin/neck area, dropping the 7-footer to the floor like a tall sack of potatoes.

After losing their superstar, the Spurs fought valiantly, pushing the MN Timberwolves to the final seconds of a Game 4 they needed to win, in order to even the series at 2-2 going back to San Antonio for Game 5. Thankfully, the Wolves pulled out a tight 114-109 victory.
When the game was over, Spurs coach Mitch Johnson heralded Wemby for protecting himself, though he said there was no intent behind it. When asked if he was expecting further discipline on his young superstar, Johnson pretty much laughed.
No suspension for Victor Wembanyama vs MN Timberwolves
Nonetheless, when we woke Monday morning, there was all sorts of chatter surrounding whether or not Wemby will be allowed to play in Game 5. Some argued that there is past precedent to argue for another game, possibly more.
By noon Monday, the league made it’s ruling. There will be no suspension for the 22-year-old defensive player of the year and top MVP candidate, who will be in the starting lineup Tuesday back at Frost Bank Center.

Of course, it was unlikely the NBA was going to hold their golden child out another game, even if his dirty elbow warranted it from a history standpoint. Chris Finch told KFAN Radio this morning that the Minnesota Timberwolves fully expected him to play in Game 5, as well.
In the first three games this series, Victor Wembanyama was averaging 23 points, 15 rebounds, 6.3 blocks and 2.7 assists per game (34.3 MPG). In Game 4, he exited after putting up just 4 points, 4 rebounds, 0 blocks, 1 assist and 2 turnovers.
