Rams defensive star weighs in on controversial Ty Simpson pick

[Los Angeles Rams](https://www.sportingnews.com/us/nfl/los-angeles-rams) star defensive edge rusher Byron Young opened up about the team's controversial Ty Simpson first-round selection.

In a recent interview with [DJ Siddiqi of R.org](https://r.org/2026/05/04/byron-young-talks-key-to-beating-seahawks-staffords-return-and-rams-drafting-simpson/), Young spoke candidly about Simpson, praising the young quarterback and adding how he trusts the Rams' front office.

“I think he’s a good quarterback, he’s a great kid,” said Young of Simpson. “With the front office, trusting everything that they do is in the best interest of this team. I’m looking forward to seeing where this goes. We got some great players, got some D-linemen, got some tight ends. Got some receivers in there. I can’t wait to see what these guys bring to this. I have no doubt that these guys will come in, definitely help motivate you regardless of what pick they are.”

Rams commit to future at quarterback with Ty Simpson

----------------------------------------------------

The Rams selected Simpson with their 13th overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. It came with a ton of backlash and a ton of criticism espcially after Sean McVay's body language during their Day 1 draft press conference.

Since then, the Rams have gone on full damage control mode, backing the pick like no other.

It was clear that the Rams have other needs, like addressing their wide receiver depth and offensive line. However, they decided to grab who they believe could be their future franchise quarterback after Matthew Stafford.

Only time will tell how the Simpson pick pans out. One thing is clear: Simpson will not help Los Angeles to a Lombardi Trophy in 2026.
